Free Pets to Good Home ? Blog Archive ? German Shepherd ...

As a pet owner it is your duty to train your pet to behave appropriately. A dog, no matter what breed, does not instinctively know right from wrong. It is your role as owner to teach your furry friend and make him figure out how to act properly. You can use the tips that have been provided in this article to find out how to provide your pet dog with appropriate German Shepherd training.

Jumping is a typical behavior among dogs. Though jumping may be an indication that your pet dog is excited to see you, it should be resolved in early stages since it can be risky not only to you but to kids or older people who are not stable. To get rid of the behavior, practice walking your furry pet over to a rug and asking him to sit when the doorbell rings. Ask a friend or family member to ring the doorbell. Guide your pet dog by his leash to a rug or spot and have him sit. Praise him and offer a treat. Repeating this exercise can help him to stay calm and appear more well-behaved when guests come over. In addition, it also helps to remind or orient your guests of the best way to interact with your canine friend so as not to motivate jumping behavior.

Walking is a significant part of exercise but it can be very difficult to master especially if there are numerous interruptions along the way. With the right practice and patience, your furry friend will be walking right by your side in no time if you follow these steps: first, do not permit him to leave the door first. When you put his leash on, have him sit first or give you his paw to calm him down. When you are actually walking and he begins to walk before you or pulls the leash, give the leash a quick tug to assert yourself. If he keeps on pulling the leash, stop walking and allow him calm down before you resume walking. If the pulling continues, stop and head to another path to make it clear to him that you are the one who decides when and where to go.

Understand that German Shepherd training is going on 24 hours a day. Do not make the error of thinking that you?re only training your furry pet during your obedience classes and practice sessions. Your canine pet is watching and learning from you during each interaction you have with him, so be sure you are always reinforcing positive behavior.
